Pro-Life Attorney General John O’Connor Defending vs. Lawsuits by Abortion Industry; Abortionists Say Abortions in State Will End
Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt Wednesday signed into law HB 4327, which protects the unborn child in Oklahoma throughout pregnancy, with narrow exceptions. The law is enforced through civil remedies – lawsuits – rather than criminal penalties. A growing phenomenon across the country in recent years is the refusal to prosecute certain crimes by district attorneys who may be sympathetic to a particular crime. “Prosecutorial discretion” has been abused from top levels of the federal government to the local courthouse. Civil remedies avoid that problem.
Under HB 4327, a private individual may sue an abortionist or other party who aids or abets an illegal abortion. A woman who has an abortion would not be subject to being sued. Exceptions to the law include saving the life of the mother, or pregnancies resulting from rape or incest reported to law enforcement. The law contains an emergency clause, so it became effective immediately Wednesday upon being signed by Governor Stitt.
According to news reports, the abortion industry has said it will stop performing abortions in Oklahoma because of HB 4327 and three other pro-life laws enacted during this year’s legislative session. Abortionists, however, are challenging several recent pro-life laws in court, seeking to have them struck down. Oklahoma’s pro-life Attorney General John O’Connor is defending the pro-life laws in court.
Pro-life Oklahomans deeply appreciate our lawmakers’ pro-life values, principled leadership, and dedication to defending the lives of the youngest and most helpless little members of our human family. In addition to the pro-life laws they have enacted, the educational and inspirational value of their commitment to innocent human life has great influence in winning hearts and minds to respect and defend the unborn child. We are most grateful.
Three other critically important pro-life bills have previously become law during this year’s legislative session, and the cumulative effect has led to the announcement that the abortion industry intends to stop performing abortions in our state.
No other state in the nation has a legislature as pro-life as ours here in Oklahoma. The Republican Leadership in the House and Senate are inspiring in the strength of their commitment to defending the sanctity of innocent human life.
No other state has a governor as pro-life as Governor Kevin Stitt, who has signed every pro-life bill into law, and no other state has an attorney general as pro-life as Attorney General John O’Connor, who defends our laws in court.
